Vincent Albanese, a
senior man for FDNY
Ladder 38/Engine 88 for
more than 38 years and
Brigadier General in the
New York Army Guard,
spent his life saving
the lives of others. His
relentless pursuit of
doing the right thing
was exemplary and his
bravery was gallant. Two
days after Congress shot
down a federal health
bill that would have
provided $7.4 billion in
aid to people sickened
at Ground Zero, Vincent
passed away from bladder
cancer.
On
Saturday, September 11,
2010 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00
p.m. ET, the
Always-At-Aum Yoga
School in West
Babylon will host a
special fundraiser to
honor and celebrate
Vincent’s life along
with all first
responders who have and
are currently battling
debilitating and life
threatening illnesses in
the wake of 9/11. All
proceeds from
the event will
go to the Uniformed
Firefighters Association
Widows’ and Children’s
Fund. The fundraiser
will also provide space
for all community
members to reflect
peacefully on the events
that took place a decade
ago while helping to
make a difference today
in the lives of first
responders and their
families.
The event will begin
with a yoga mala, which
is the completion of 108
sun salutations or 108
minutes of meditation. A
$25 donation is
suggested for people who
wish to participate in
this powerful practice.
Anyone interested in
participating in the
mala is encouraged to
seek sponsorship from
friends, families, and
colleagues.
Following the yoga mala,
NFL fans will have an
opportunity to meet and
have their children run
drills with former top
professional NFL players
such as Wesley Walker,
Bobby Jackson,
Bruce Harper, and
others. Health and
wellness experts from
the Long Island
community will also be
exhibiting to meet with
attendees and share
helpful resources.
The day will conclude
with an opportunity to
win AMAZING raffle
prizes valued from
$300-$1400, which
attendees need not be
present to win. Raffle
tickets will be sold at
the event but are
currently available.
Commemorative t-shirts,
tank tops, and bracelets
will also be available
for purchase.
This special event is
open to anyone who
wishes to attend.
Individuals who are
unable to attend can
complete their own yoga
mala and mail donations
to:
