Introduce Yourself : Hello; what a station!

    Author: Byrdsfan
Subject: Hello; what a station!
Posted: 22 Feb 2010 at 2:11pm

Hello people. What a great station you have with WGBB!
I discovered it this weekend while I was with my brother's family in Ocean Grove NJ this weekend. We were there for their annual chocolate festival, which was, frankly, a bit meager this year, because of the snow storms they've been having. Everything was covered with snow!

Anyhow, I'm from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and my most recent job was refurbishing old hotel and hospital phone systems, but the place where I worked is temporarily (we hope ) shut down due to the slow economy.

I have to say the programming I heard on WGBB was refreshing and unique. So much better than the corporate radio you usually hear cluttering up the AM dial, and the station does exceptionally well in terms of its coverage. Usually 1240 is considered a "local" frequency, and typically the 'listening area' covered by a station at that frequency would be about 18 miles in any direction, but thanks to the way water holds onto an AM signal, the waters in the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island sound give WGBB a coverage area that many stations can only dream of.

Of course, it's available on the web, but still it's nice to have a signal in the air, and when you can get 20,000 watts worth of coverage for a thousand watts, that's quite impressive!

WGBB coverage map:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WGBB&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

Also there's nothing like sincere programming done by real, dedicated people, and I congratulate the station for its

commitment to such programs! It was a joy to hear the STMS soul music show, and the preceding show with union people talking about their efforts to help the rescue workers from 911.

The shows on Sunday morning fairly rocked, and were interesting as well, which is quite an accomplishment when you're talking

about religious programming!

My best wishes to one and all at the station, and all you who listen, and who visit this place as well!

Long may you run!
